KUWAIT, Oct 12 (KUNA) -- 1964 -- Cabinet took decision to ban imports of alcohol and liquor to Kuwait.
1988 -- His Highness the Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah issued decree to amend law 6/1962. The amendment led to the establishment of Farwaniyah governorate.
1994 -- GCC Foreign Ministers and their counterparts from the US and the UK held an exceptional meeting in Kuwait. The meeting decided to continue efforts to protect Kuwait against Iraqi threats. A fund was established to finance troops' deployment.
1997 -- Wataniya telecom company was established. Commercial activities of the company began in 1999, providing services as the first privately owned telecom entity.
1997 -- Kuwaiti athlete Adela Al-Roumi won third European weightlifting competition for the disabled which was held in Slovakia.

2000 -- Four military vessels made in France joined the Kuwaiti marine force at a ceremony held in Mohammad Al-Ahmad base south of Kuwait.
