NEW YORK, Sept 28 (KUNA) -- Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on Saturday expressed his concern to Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari at the "deteriorating" security situation in Iraq, his press office said in a readout.
"The Secretary General expressed concern at the political crisis and the deteriorating security situation in Iraq and called again on Iraqi leaders to engage in serious dialogue and speed up reconciliation," it added following their meeting earlier today.
It said that Ban briefed Zebari on the latest peace efforts for Syria, following the announcement yesterday that Geneva II would be held in mid-November, and thanked Iraq for its generous hospitality to Syrian refugees.
Both officials underlined the need for additional resources to be made available to assist Iraq to meet the humanitarian needs related to those refugees. (end) sj.bs KUNA 282026 Sep 13NNNN
