KHARTOUM, Aug 19 (KUNA) -- The Sudanese government announced on Monday that
floods that hit the country killed 73 people, while indicating that danger
stage will end soon.
Sudanese Information Minister Ahmed Bilal Osman said in remarks to
Al-Ashorooq TV (Sudan Television) that danger stage will end by one week to 10
days.
Weather forecasts predict some rains to fall on the Ethiopian Highlands, a
matter Sudan should prepare to face, Osman added.
The amount of flood's water that descended to Nile River, reached almost
two billion cubic meters, he added.
The current situation in Sudan is described as a crisis, which can be only
avoided through great efforts by the government and the whole society, he
stated.
The Sudanese civil defense forces issued a number of flood warnings before
the autumn seasons to all the states Sudan, he said.
Osman explained that the country cannot avoid the floods crisis, despite
such information, because the real problem is in the buildings that are
blocking valleys to allow flood's water to descend to the Nile River. (end)
