BEIRUT, May 22 (KUNA) -- At least 11 people have been killed 50 AND others HAVE suffered injuries in ongoing fighting in northern Lebanon that erupted last Sunday, the daily newspaper said in its edition published on Wednesday.
Latest exchanges of gunfire between foe gunmen entrenched in the districts of Bab Al-Tebbaneh and Baal Mohsen in the port city of Tripoli, some 80 km from Beirut, resulted in death of six people, raising the casualty toll since break-out of the fighting to 11 dead and more than 50 others wounded, An-Nahar quoted a security source as saying.
A number of the wounded were hit with stray bullets far from the demarcation lines.
The Lebanese Army has deployed armored units in the city in a bid to quell the violence.
Jabal Mohsen is a hotbed for Alawite gunmen that support Syrian regime and Bab Al-Tebbaneh includes strongholds for Sunni Muslim militiamen that back the Syrian opposition.
The armed militiamen often engage in fighting on streets and narrow roads snaking among residential districts in Tripoli, Lebanon's second largest city. (end) oh.rk KUNA 221050 May 13NNNN
