ISLAMABAD, May 15 (KUNA) -- British High Commissioner (HC), Adam Thomson on
Wednesday said that United Kingdom (UK) police has received countless
complaints against Muatahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Husaain's
statement about detaching Karachi from Pakistan.
MQM chief, Altaf Hussain, gave a statement about detaching southern
Pakistani city Karachi from Pakistan. He gave these remarks when political
parties alleged that MQM was involved in rigging on May 11 polls in Karachi
city. Considering these remarks hurting, a large number of overseas Pakistanis
filed complaints against Altaf Hussain who has taken political asylum in UK.
In a statement, the British HC said Pakistan should take serious notice of
Altaf Hussain's statement. Strict laws are followed in Britain against hate
speech and spreading violence, adding the UK police is currently investigating
Altaf's speech, Thomson further added. British HC also said that London police
is independent to investigating the complaints and is under no pressure from
the UK government.
He added that if anyone is found guilty, the accused could face
imprisonment. Commenting on the extradition of Altaf, the British HC said that
Altaf's extradition was possible but there were legal complications associated
with the process. (end)
