BRUSSELS, April 16 (KUNA) -- EU High Representative Catherine Ashton Tuesday condemned in the strongest terms the latest series of attacks in a number of Iraqi cities, which have killed dozens of people and left many more injured.
"The High Representative also condemns the recent spate of violence targeting local politicians and election candidates ahead of the upcoming provincial elections, including the killing of two more candidates on Sunday. Electoral violence is unacceptable," said Michael Mann, spokesman for Ashton, in a statement.
Ashton remains confident that the Iraqi people will remain steadfast in their continued rejection of attempts to undermine Iraq's transition to democracy and lasting stability, he added. (end) nk.tg KUNA 161804 Apr 13NNNN
