(with photos) KUWAIT, April 15 (KUNA) -- Jahra Birds Reserve has succeeded in attracting a massive amount of 240 crossing and migrating birds, said Kuwaiti Researcher on Monday.
The Jahara Birds Reserve, a subsidiary of the Kuwait Environment Public Authority (KEPA), witnessed, last year, infrastructural development that included repair of roads and construction of water networks, in coordination with Kuwait Oil Comapny (KOC), a researcher at the department of safeguarding the biodiversity in KEPA, Khaled Mohammad Al-Ghanim, told KUNA.
Various species of birds were lured to the reserve due to the renovation works, abundant water and food.
In April 2012, the first Plover nest in Kuwait was set up with four eggs, and in May another nest was spotted in the reserve. In April 2013, a number of different nests were established.
The water network aided the Reed plant which brings security for the water birds and nesting, Al-Ghanim added.
Numerous species of birds were recorded for the first time in Jahra Bird Reserve in the past months.
Al-Ghanim expressed appreciation for efforts of the KEPA and KOC in developing a protected infrastructure. (end) na.osa.hs KUNA 151203 Apr 13NNNN
