(With photos) BRUSSELS, March 23 (KUNA) -- Spring officially began in Belgium last week but there is no sign of it as freezing temperatures and snow continue to hit the country.
On Sunday morning a blanket of snow covered Belgium after heavy snow fell throughout the night.
The snow caused dangerous driving conditions, but as a Sunday is a holiday no major problems were reported. However, there were reports of small accidents in several places in the country.
Local media reports said that the last time Belgium had so much snow so late in spring was in 1952.
Brussels international airport announced that its winter operations teams are ready to clear runways and taxiways from snow. Flights may be delayed due to de-icing and snow-clearing operations, it said in a statement.
On Monday and Tuesday, Belgium will see some sun, but it will remain cold, with maximum temperatures of 3 to 4 degrees Celsius. (end) nk.sd KUNA 241421 Mar 13NNNN
