By Mubarak Al-Hajeri (with photos) BEIRUT, March 18 (KUNA) -- Kuwaiti donated Monday a new hospital, built by Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS), to Lebanese government as part of Kuwait's support to Lebanese health sector.
In a ceremony held here, Chairman of KRCS Barjas Al-Barjas signed with Lebanese Health Minister Ali Hassan Khalil a memo on the transfer of the ownership of Al-Minya hospital to the Lebanese Health Ministry.
The ceremony was also attended by the Deputy Chairman of KRCS Dr. Hilal Al-Sayer, Kuwait Embassy Charge d'Affaires Jassem Al-Najim, and several other KRCS officials including Saad Al-Nahidh, Dr. Musaad Al-Anizi, Khalid Al-Zaid, and Adnan Al-Nawa, as well as several senior Lebanese officials.
The hospital in Al-Minya, North Lebanon, would provide medical services for more than 200,000 Lebanese people.
On this occasion, the Lebanese Minister expressed gratitude for KRCS and Kuwaiti leadership and people on their generous support to Lebanon.
Khalil revealed that Kuwaiti businessman Nasser Mohammad Al-Sayer has also financed a building of a new burn treatment section at the Nabatieh Hospital, adding that its operation will start next week.
Nabatieh Hospital was built in 1997 through a generous donation from Kuwait and the expansion of its cancer treatment center was financed by Sheikha Feryal Al-Duaij Al-Sabah, a member of the Kuwait ruling family.
Meanwhile, Chairman of KRCS Al-Barjas said that KRCS is eager to expand its social and humanitarian role inside and outside Kuwait.
He added that Kuwait and Lebanese have strong and candid relations, and KRCS is keen to strengthen ties linking the two Arab nations.
The State of Kuwait, represented by the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, built 13 hospitals in different regions across Lebanon so far, in addition to extending loans worth over USD 612 million, and several grants worth USD 420 million to the Arab country.
