KUWAIT, Dec 11 (KUNA) -- Kuwaiti shooter Sara Al-Hawal on Tuesday said she dedicates her trap shooting gold medal at the recently-ended 2012 Asian Shotgun Championships to HH the Amir, the Kuwaiti government and people.
The shooter expressed her "multiplied delight" at winning her country's only women's gold medal, and for being able to leave a mark for Kuwaiti women among their Asian peers.
The achievement has placed added pressure on her to train harder and push for more medals at future international venues, she said.
She expressed gratitude for the efforts of the head of the Asian and Kuwaiti shooting bodies Sheikh Salman Al-Humoud Al-Salem Al-Sabah in nurturing her abilities.
Al-Hawal edged India's Shagun Chowdhary by one shot, to win the women's trap with 84 shots on a stormy day at the eight-day event held in northern India's Punjab city of Patiala.
Kuwait made an impressive display at the tournament, leading the medals count with a total 10 medals - three gold, four silver and three bronze - with the host nation coming second with seven medals and the UAE in third, with only three.
Al-Hawal was not the only Kuwaiti woman to have won a medal for Kuwait as Afrah Mohammad took two silver medals for the individual and team skeet and Iman Al-Shamma and Shaikha Al-Rashidi both taking a silver each in the category's team event.
The remaining gold medals were snatched by Abdallah Al-Rashidi in the men's individual skeet, which he carried to another overall team gold, along with his bronze-medalist compatriot Zaid Al-Mutairi and Salah Al-Mutairi.
London Olympic trap bronze-medalist Fehaid Al-Daihani took a silver in the men's double trap, which was added to the total of a team bronze, also awarded to Saad Al-Mutaiti and Jarrah Al-Shuwair. In the men's trap Naser Miqled took a bronze, which was added to a team silver with Abdulrahman Al-Faihan and Fehaid Al-Daihani. (end) bsu.sd KUNA 111920 Dec 12NNNN
