VIENNA, Sept 18 (KUNA) -- Iran demanded the International Atomic Energy
Agency (IAEA) to enlist an additional supplementary item on its currently held
annual conference to ensure "integrity and efficiency" of the Agency's
decision-making process.
Iran, who has recently chaired the Non-Aligned Movement at the United
Nations, said in a statement that that there had to be a comprehensive
discussion on the current process of decision-making at the UN body; an
investigation on the transparency and integrity of these decisions should be
carried out.
Iran's ambassador to the UN's Ali Asghar Soltanieh has reiterated the
necessity of changing the dynamics of decision-making at the IAEA by enlisting
an additional supplementary item that would allow all of the 150 UN member
states to engage in the making decisions and that it should not be restricted
to the 35 board of governors.
"Vital issues of political sovereignty, national security, and interest in
developing nuclear energy for peaceful purposes should be voted by all of the
UN state members, and not only by the board of governors" the statement
pointed out. (end)
