ISTANBUL, June 25 (KUNA) -- One Turkish soldier was killed and three others were injured on Monday during violent clashes between army troops and elements of the separatist Kurdish organization, the PKK, in southeast Turkey, security sources said.
According to the Turkish Television News NTV, the fighting took a place in a regional close to the borders with Iraq and Iran. The military dispatched reinforcements to the battle ground where the clashes were still continuing.
The firefight occurred hours after the Turkish Army bombarded PKK strongholds, in retaliation for an attack by the rebels on a position of the army near the Iraqi border that killed eight soldiers. Thousands of PKK rebels are stationed in mountains in northern Iraq and lunch attacks from there in a targets in eastern Turkey which is mainly Kurdish. (end) ta.ss KUNA 251308 Jun 12NNNN
