BAGHDAD, May 31 (KUNA) -- A series of explosion in the Iraqi capital Thursday led to the death of 18 people in addition to the injury of 64 others, said a security source.
The source told KUNA that the explosions, which occurred in several areas within Baghdad, had damaged surrounding property.
The security source also indicated that most attacks targeted areas where civilians and members of the Iraqi security forces were present.
The explosions in Baghdad coincide with a tense political situation the country after weeks of relative stability. The explosions also coincide with the third trial in absentia of former Iraqi Vice President Tareq Al-Hashimi, who is being accused of masterminding attacks against Iraqi security forces.
