KUWAIT, May 1 (KUNA) -- Kuwait squash team Tuesday defeated Sri Lanka 3-0 at the start of the 16th Asian championship, which features participation of 15 male and eight female teams.
Kuwaitis Abdullah Al-Muzayyen, Ammar Al-Tamimi and Salem Al-Fayez made a good start which would encourage them for future matches.
Al-Jahra governor Sheikh Mubarak Al-Humoud Al-Sabah, at the inauguration of the championship on behalf of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, hoped the tournament would show top-of-class matches that reflected the level of squash in Asia.
Board Chairman and Director General of the Public Authority for Youth and Sports (PAYS) Faisal Al-Jazzaf said squash in Kuwait has made larges trides in recent years.
In other matches in men category, Pakistan beat China 3-0, South Korea defeated Taipei 2-1, Jordan over Singapore 2-1, while Hong Kong and Malaysia easily defeated Iraq and Palestine each with three clean sets.
