KUWAIT, May 1 (KUNA) -- The Board of Trustees of Sheikh Salem Al-Ali Al-Sabah Informatics Award announced the winner of the 11th "Informatics Medal" on Tuesday as the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), headquartered in Los Angeles, in appreciation of its efforts to better organize and manage global internet infrastructure.
The press release on this announcement also praised the corporation for keeping up with the swift changes and developments in the world of internet. In addition, it said, the ICANN helped stress the importance of the Arabic Language and help open up horizons for promotion of culture and knowledge through working towards possibility of using Arabic domain names.
The trustees said the medal would be officially awarded at the annual informatics prizes ceremony, due May 9, at Salwa Sabah Al-Ahmad Hall at the Marina.
The Board of Trustees had decided, as of 2007, to award an annual award of merit, the Informatics Medal, to any public figure or institution with influential contributions to the fields of informatics and internet development.(end) tms.wsa KUNA 011146 May 12NNNN
