JEDDAH, April 15 (KUNA) -- The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) openly denounced here Sunday the recent military coup in Guinea Bissau, which is an OIC member state.
OIC Secretary-General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu billed, in a release, the coup in Guinea Bissau as a "heinous and unacceptable act", saying it would only block efforts to ensure security and stability and even undermine the democratic process which have begun in the country over the last few months.
Ihsanoglu expressed deep sorrow that the coup came just a few weeks ahead of the country's presidential election runoff.
He urged those members of the military forces, who carried out the coup d'{tat, not to use violence and to release all officials arrested as a prelude to re-launching the constitutional system in Guinea Bissau. (end) yms.mt KUNA 151510 Apr 12NNNN
