KUWAIT, April 9 (KUNA) -- The construction of facilities and infrastructure of services projects are the backbone for economic and social development, a Kuwaiti government official said Monday.
Fadhel Safar, Minister of Public Works and Minister of State for Planning and Development, said the public and private sectors have been concentrating on implementing objectives of the State of Kuwait's 2010-14 development plan.
Safar, speaking at the conclusion of "Kuwait Investment Forum," said Kuwait has been surrounded by exceptional developments and circumstances "which negatively affect its abilities and capabilities." He said Kuwait's development plan included many projects that covered economic and social domains. Safar also pointed out that infrastructure project were top priority in the development plan.
The Minister called for backing and expanding role of the private sector throughout the execution process of the development plan, in addition to political, economic and social stability.
"The government believes that political, social and economic stability is the gate for development, progress and achievements ...," said Safar.
The development plan, he added, included 324 projects with a value exceeding KD 3.5 billion (USD 12.5 billion).
Meanwhile, Board Chairman of Al-Shal consultancy Jassem Al-Saadoun called for lessening dependence on oil as a major source of income in the government's budget.
