KUWAIT, April 6 (KUNA) -- A Syrian movement, bent on ousting regime of Bashar Al-Assad, praised on Friday the fresh statement issued by the UN Security Council regarding the Syrian crisis and the April 10 ultimatum set by the UN to halt the violence.
The Syrian National Change Current (Trend) said in a statement that the plan of Kofi Annan, the UN-Arab League envoy, does not meet minimum aspiration of the Syrian people; ouster of the regime.
The opposition group condemned Russia's diplomacy at the Security Council that succeeded in changing the term, in the statement, from demanding to calling on the Syrian regime to withdraw its forces from the cities and towns.
The group called for arming the Free Syrian Army, establishing secure zones for civilians and tightening the political and economic blockade on the regime.
The Syrian people will continue the struggle for resorting their freedom and will no longer take into consideration initiatives and ultimatums that only give the regime more time to commit more atrocities.
At the security level, the General Authority of the Syrian Revolution said, in a statement, that up to 69 Syrians died in attacks by the regime forces in Idlib and Homs, on Thursday. The opposition activists reported artillery bombardment of several towns and areas, including the outskirts of Damascus.
The National Hospital in the city of Homs was hit with rockets. The attack resulted in burning the third floor of the building, the activists said.
Elsewhere, 100 army deserters attacked the regulars in rural areas near the northern city of Aleppo, knocking out five tanks.
The Syrian crisis erupted more than a year ago. It started with wide-scale demonstrations calling for administrative and political reforms. More than 9, 000 people have been reportedly killed since the revolt erupted. (end) ek.am.rk KUNA 061339 Apr 12NNNN
