By Hani Al-Awadh (with photos) DUBAI, March 3 (KUNA) -- The National Union of Kuwaiti Students in the United Arab Emirates, NUKS/UAE branch held here late Friday its annual ceremony under the sponsorship of Kuwaiti General Consul in Dubai and the northern Emirates Tareq Al-Hamad.
The Cultural Attache at the Kuwaiti Embassy in the UAE Dr. Salah Yaseen said in a keynote speech, on day one of the two-day event, that the UAE has around 66 certified universities that play an integral role in education, expressing hope Kuwait could follow suit and develop its own educational sector.
He called on Kuwaiti students to support one another during their stay in the Gulf country, encouraging them to learn from their counterparts of other nationalities, and to act as good representatives and ambassadors of Kuwait.
On his part, head of NUKS/UAE Khalifa Al-Yagoot said that the event this year would focus on national unity, under the theme "United We Rise".
He also congratulated HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and the Kuwaiti people on the recent national days.
Later, media professor at Kuwait University Dr. Anas Al-Reshaid made a speech on the issue of national unity.
This was followed by a recital of works by poet Salim Sayyar, one of which praised the accomplishments of the late ruler of Abu Dhabi and former president of the UAE, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al-Nahayan.
Attendees were finally shown a documentary, directed by student Ahmad Yaqoob, depicting past and present achievements in the history of Kuwait.
Day two of the event is expected to host MP Riyadh Al-Adsani, Dr. Ghanim Al-Najjar and former MP Walid Al-Jeri, all of whom will be involved in a political debate with television presenter Abdullah Boftain.
Other segments will involve a legal presentation by Kuwaiti lawyer Abdullah Al-Ahmad, a nutrition presentation by Abdullah Al-Mutawa, success stories by two Kuwaiti graduates and a live televised competition organised by Al Watan TV. (end) hny.gta KUNA 031040 Mar 12NNNN
