BRUSSELS, Feb 20 (KUNA) -- The Muslim Executive of Belgium (EMB) Monday expressed dismay and condemnation of the desecration of a mosque in the city of Charleroi, about 50 km from Brussels.
"To profane a place of worship regarded by Muslims as 'the house of Allah', is unacceptable and unjustifiable," said the EMB in a statement.
The EMB is the official body that represents Muslims in Belgium regarding their religious issues.
It urged the authorities to make every effort to trace the perpetrators of these acts and bring them to justice.
The mosque situated in the suburb Marchienne-au-Pont of Charleroi is mainly used by th Turkish community.
The EMB called on the Muslim community to exercise restraint and calm, and avoid responding to the provocation.
A spokesman for EMB told KUNA that some unknown individuals painted the head of a pig on a wall of the mosque on Saturday night.
This is the second time such an incident takes place in the same mosque in recent months, noted the spokesman. (end) nk.hb KUNA 201858 Feb 12NNNN
