GAZA, Feb 6 (KUNA) -- Prime Minister of the Hamas-ruled Gaza Ismael Haniyeh welcomed the announcement of "Doha Declaration" which stated the formation of an interim government, under the leadership of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
In a press release, on Monday, Haniyeh gave his blessing to the agreement, which was signed in Qatar, Doha. He pointed out that "his government is ready to implement this agreement." Palestinian Prime Minister Dr. Salam Fayyadh, expressed similar sentiment to such move and said in a press release that "this agreement is a positive response to the aspiration of the Palestinian people who are looking forward to induce a sense of national unity in all the country's governmental bodies." "This step is a necessity to end the Israeli aggression and to complete the formation of independent Palestinian statehood where Jerusalem is its capital, " Fayyadh added.
Meanwhile, Lebanon's President Michel Suleiman stressed the importance of the Doha Declaration by saying that it would give "hope" to the Palestinian reconciliation process and promote national unity in order to help the Palestinian people to regain their rights.
The "Doha Declaration" was signed in the Gulf state earlier today by Abbas and Hamas chief Khaled Meshaal in the presence of Qatar's Emir Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani.
The agreement states that the new Palestinian government will comprise "independent technocrats," and will also be responsible for overseeing reconstruction efforts in the Gaza Strip. (end) mzt.nfm KUNA 061548 Feb 12NNNN
