PARIS, Feb 2 (KUNA) - France announced on Thursday it was shipping 600 kilos of medical aid to strife-torn Nigeria in the wake of extremist attacks that have killed hundreds of people in the past month.
Sectarian attacks, including massive bombings that killed at least 185 people in the town of Kano, have been spiralling and testing the resources of the Nigerian government.
The Islamist group "Boko Haram", allegedly affiliated with Al-Qaeda, has claimed responsibility for attacks against Christians and security forces in northern Nigeria and there have been retaliations against Muslims in several areas.
"The terrorist attacks January 20 last in the town of Kano caused 200 deaths and dozens of wounded," the French Foreign Ministry said, noting that "since that date, less important attacks continue to hit his town on a daily basis." Officials here said that there were around 200 people in need of medical attention, which the French aid intends to meet.
"We recall the commitment of France to the fight against terrorism and our solidarity with Nigeria faced with this terrible trial," the French statement added. (End) jk.ajs KUNA 021613 Feb 12NNNN
