NEWw DELHI, Jan 19 (KUNA) -- Indian security forces gunned down one militant in the country's northernmost state of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, reported the Press Trust of India (PTI).
The encounter took place in the state's Poonch district along the international border with Pakistan - Line of Control (LoC). Search operation is still on to trace if there were more militants.
According to the report, acting on a tip off that the militant was hiding in the area, the security forces launched a cordon and search operation. On being surrounded by security forces, the militant opened fire on the security forces.
The security forces returned fire resulting in a fierce gunbattle between the two sides, and leading to the killing of the militant. One UBGL (Underbarrel Grenade Launcher), an AK rifle and four magazines were recovered from the slain militant. (end) py.ajs KUNA 191626 Jan 12NNNN
