GAZA, Oct 6 (KUNA) -- A number of Kuwaiti activists have entered the Israeli-besieged Gaza Strip to distribute aid and help break the Israeli siege on the populous Palestinian territory.
"This new convoy has come to deliver a message of solidarity to Palestinians and to confirm we have not forgotten our people in Gaza," Kuwaiti activist Mubarak Al-Mutawa said in a press conference upon arrival.
Al-Mutawa stressed the need for more "work to lift Israeli blockade on the Gaza Strip and open crossings permanently and without any obstacles to enable the Palestinians to get their needs." Palestinian security source at Rafah border terminal told KUNA that the Kuwaitis were among more than 78 international activities who participate in the "Miles Of Smiles 6" aid convoy which arrived here Thursday.
The activists, who came from Algeria, Bahrain, Morocco, Jordan, Turkey, South Africa and the United Kingdom, will stay in the Strip for six days to distribute the aid to the needy.
The convoy carries 10 tons of medical supplies, including medications that have been unobtainable in Gaza, 43 ambulances and bus.
The source, however, revealed that Egyptian authorities have seized the ambulances and the bus.
The convoy was greeted at Rafah crossing by a number of the government officials and crowds of Gazans.
Israel has been imposing a harsh siege on the Gaza Strip since June 2007, preventing the entry of many essential human supplies such as medicines, food and fuel. (end) mzt.ibi KUNA 062128 Oct 11NNNN
