TOKYO, Sept 27 (KUNA) -- The Japanese government plans to hold a meeting of Cabinet ministers on information security next week as part of its effort to tighten cyber security, following a series of cyber attacks on Japan's top defense contractors.
"The government will unite and take possible measures against cyber attacks, " Chief Cabinet Secretary Osamu Fujimura told a news conference on Tuesday, adding that the upcoming meeting is expected to discuss ways to reinforce anti-cyber attack measures.
Last week, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd., Japan's biggest arms manufacturer for the Defense Ministry, said its computer system had been infected with viruses enabling unauthorized access.
The firm said that someone hacked into computers at its production sites for defense and nuclear equipment, but no important data leakage has been confirmed so far. Other major defense contractors, such as IHI Corp. and Kawasaki Heavy Industries, have also received virus-tainted e-mails. (end) mk.asa KUNA 271213 Sep 11NNNN
