GAZA, Aug 22 (KUNA) -- The Palestinian government in Gaza Strip, headed by Hamas, announced Monday it had formed a declaration for a ceasefire that Palestinian smaller factions in Gaza could follow.
The document calls on smaller Palestinian factions in Gaza along with Israel to adhere to a ceasefire, Hamas spokesperson, Taher Al-Nono told a press conference.
"The government (in Gaza) appreciates the commitment of Palestinian factions to their responsibilities in defending the Palestinian people and obstructing the occupier and its aggressive goals.
"Hamas bears responsibility for maintaining the ceasefire to regain rights off of the occupiers," he said.
He also hailed the UN, the Arab League, the Organisation of the Islamic Conference and Egypt on their efforts on the Middle East issue. (end) mzt.sd KUNA 230057 Aug 11NNNN
