PARIS, Aug 9 (KUNA) -- France on Tuesday urged the opposition National Transition Council (NTC) in Libya to "rapidly" form a new executive body after the NTC disbanded its current executive.
A French statement said that the decision to dissolve the executive body was "a sovereign decision" by the NTC president and officials here stressed the "regular and confident relations" Paris has with the Council, which is seeking to overthrow Libyan leader Muammer Gaddafi, with massive international support.
France was the first nation to recognize the NTC as "the sole, legitimate representative of the Libyan people" and the only representative of governmental authority in Libya.
The French government has also led a major campaign to get international recognition for the NTC and has pushed for funding to be provided for that body.
"The decision of the president of the NTC is a sovereign one," the Foreign Ministry said here.
"Naturally, we want a new executive bureau to be rapidly designated in order to pursue the implementation of the political Road Map that was presented to the Contact Group" on Libya. (end) jk.mt KUNA 091450 Aug 11NNNN
