BRUSSELS, May 24 (KUNA) -- The European Union Tuesday published an updated list of sanctions imposed on Iran, Libya and Syria.
The new blacklist includes 111 Iranian companies and banks including the European-Iranain trade bank based in the German city of Hamburg.
The EU said that this bank has played a key role in assisting a number of Iranian banks with alternative options for completing transactions disrupted by EU sanctions targeting Iran.
Four Iranian officials from the Atomic Energy Organisation of Iran and the Chairman and Managing Director of the Islamic Republic of iran Shipping Line Mohammad Hossein Dajmar were added to the new sanctions list which imposes a travel ban to EU and freezing of assets.
The EU travel ban on Iranian foreign minister Ali Akbar Salehi was suspended. He had been put on the EU blacklist whjen he was the the head of the Atomic Energy Organisation of Iran.
Colonel Taher Juwadi, fourth in Revolutionary Guard chain of command and a key member of the Qadhafi regime, and Ariqiyah Airways, Libyan subsidiary owned by the Libyan African Investment Portfolio, an entity owned and controlled by the regime was added to the list.
Syrian president Bashar Al-Assad and nine other top Syrian officials were also added to the EU sanctions list. (end) nk.asa KUNA 241315 May 11NNNN
