BAGHDAD, Jan 15 (KUNA) -- Iraqi parliament on Saturday expressed desire for
more convergence with the Syrian side and activation of the relations between
the two countries at all levels.
The position was stated by Speaker of the Iraqi parliament Ussama Al-Jajifi
during his reception of Syrian Prime Minister Mohammad Naji Otri, who is on an
official visit to Iraq, according to a government statement.
Al-Najifi said during the meeting, "that Iraq was in crisis and now began
to come out strongly and the Iraqi parliament has a desire for more
convergence with Syria".
He believed that the two countries are capable of achieving a strategic
cooperation, as well as cooperation in projects that will promote bilateral
ties.
He commended Syria's position in the hosting of the Iraqi people during the
past period, explaining that Iraq would not forget such position.
For his part, Otri said that his visit to Iraq came to install the
foundations of communication between the two countries, explaining that
conditions in Iraq remains difficult and time has come for a new relationship
between the two countries.
He called for the formation of a joint high-level strategic council,
according to which ministers of both countries sign economic and trade
