LONDON, Jan 1 (KUNA) -- The United Kingdom denounced Saturday the bomb blast that killed and injured dozens of worshippers at a church in Egypt's northern port city of Alexandria on the New Year.
Commenting on the bombing, Foreign Office Minister Alistair Burt said: "I am deeply saddened at the attack on the church in Alexandria which has claimed so many lives." "This attack on a minority community is, as President (Hosni) Mubarak and Al-Azhar have already commented, an attack upon all," a statement by the Foreign Office quoted Burt as saying.
"At the start of a New Year the world must be increasingly vigilant against such attacks wherever they occur, remain united in promotion of common values of tolerance and stand against the terrorist philosophy of violence.
"We send our sincere condolences to those injured and to the families of those involved in this attack," Burt added.
The bloody attack on Al-Qidiseen (the Saints) Church claimed at least 21 lives and injured more than 70 others last night. (end) kd.gb KUNA 012210 Jan 11NNNN
