ISTANBUL, April 28 (KUNA) - One Turkish soldier was killed and three others
were wounded during clashes with rebels of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers
Party (PKK) in the Hakkari province southeast of the country, security
sources said on Wednesday.
The Turkish Chief of Staff said in a statement that the clashes took place
when a government patrol discovered a a group of PKK rebels in the town of
Semdinli near Hakkari.
It said that an air-tight siege was slapped on the region following the
incident.
Over 44,000 people have been killed since the PKK launched an armed
struggle 15 years ago to establish an independent Kurdish state. (end)
