KUWAIT, Jan 10 (KUNA) -- Secretary General of the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters Bader Al-Refaee inaugurated on Sunday the Marine Heritage Museum, a building annexed to Al-Sharqia school, as part of the currently held 16th Al-Qurain Cultural Festival.
The establishment of this museum aims at highlighting the significance of the marine life in the history of the state of Kuwait and its dependence on diving and commerce in the past. The council has earmarked this building as a museum showcasing history of the marine life and everything related to diving, voyages, its gear, kinds of ships and parts.
The museum is an important part of Kuwait's history as people of the country have been related to sea since many years ago. The marine life has played a major role in their living and economic conditions.
Further, the people of Kuwait used to cruise ports of the Arab Gulf and the Indian Ocean with their ships to transport goods, trade, bring water to the country when rains were scant, practice fishing and transport the construction materials like marine rocks, besides diving to get pearls.
The marine museum contains many halls featuring the rise of Kuwait as a marine nation, the sail ships building, the transporting of fresh water, diving to get pearls, marine singing, fishing and dhows. (end) tms.aa.aff KUNA 101529 Jan 10NNNN
