TEHRAN, Nov 11 (KUNA) -- The swine flu A(H1N1) virus claimed the lives of 58 people across Iran, and over 2,000 people were infected with the disease, the Health Ministry reported on Wednesday.
The ministry reported the death of 20 people last week alone, bringing the death toll to 58, Director of the Health Ministry's Center for Disease Control Mohammad-Mehdi Gouya told local Tehran Radio.
"Up till now, the disease has infected 2,662 and 509 new cases were reported last week across the country," Gouya told the radio.
The disease incidence rate has decreased in some Iranian cities, Gouya pointed out, noting that "the first wave of swine flu retreated in the past few days, particularly in the country's northern areas." "The cooperation and coordination between the health and education ministries and the closure of some schools had positive impact in curbing the spread of disease among citizens," Gouya said.
