LUXEMBOURG, Oct 27 (KUNA) -- The European Union expressed here Tuesday
concerns over the continuation of human rights violatiosn and humanitarian
crisis In Sri Lanka.
"The EU is particularly concerned by the continuing humanitarian crisis and
the unacceptable situation for the internally displaced persons (IDPs) still
detained in closed camps. Indiscriminate detention of IDPs in Sri Lanka is a
clear violation of international law," said EU foreign ministers in a
statement after their two-day meeting in Luxembourg.
The ministers expressed serious concern "with continuing reports of
abductions, disappearances and extrajudicial killings," and called for an end
all human rights violations.
The EU repeated its call for "possible violations of international
humanitarian law and human rights law by all actors to be subject to
independent and credible inquiry." (end)
