RAMALLAH, Sept 27 (KUNA) -- Two Israeli policemen were lightly injured on
Sunday in occupied Jerusalem during confrontations on the outskirts of Al-Aqsa
Holy Mosque, Israeli sources said.
Meanwhile, three Palestinians were severely injured including an elderly
man in his seventies who received a bullet in the eye and another youth who
was shot in the head and lost consciousness.
Al-Aqsa Foundation which strives to protect and rally support for
protection of Islamic sites and sanctuaries reported that Palestinian
worshippers from Jerusalem intercepted Israeli extremists attempting to break
into the mosque.
Hundreds of Palestinians assembled at the courtyards of Al-Aqsa Mosque
since the dawn prayers to prevent the extremists from storming in, the
foundation said.
Israeli police intervened in the confrontations and assaulted the
Palestinians who fought back, hurling stones and shoes at the Israelis.
The situation in Jerusalem is meanwhile tense, and the Israeli forces are
fortifying presence at Bab Al-Maghariba, while hundreds of Palestinians are
still assembled at the Aqsa Mosque compound.(end)
