AMMAN, Sept 27 (KUNA) -- A total of 1.6 million Jordanian students went
back to schools on Sunday amid extreme precautions to combat the swine flu
disease which infected around 120 students forcing the closure of a number of
schools and kindergartens.
The Jordanian government disinfected the schools and the water tanks during
the Eid holiday and prepared awareness programs to prevent the disease from
spreading further.
All the swine flu infected students recovered and left the hospitals,
Jordanian Health Minister Nayef Al-Fayez said in a press release, adding that
precaution measures are ongoing as the students are returning back to their
schools.
The precaution measures state that if a case was discovered the classroom
will be shut down for a week, where as if two cases occurred then the entire
school will be closed for two weeks till new preventive measures are set.
Meanwhile, around 180,000 college students are return to classes today amid
assurances by the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Walid
Al-Ma'ani that academic institutes and universities will not be closed even if
swine flu cases were discovered.
The Ministry of Higher Education formed committees in the Jordanian
colleges to monitor the disease and to organize awareness campaigns in
coordination with the Health Ministry.
Around 3,000 Kuwaiti students study in the Jordanian colleges. (end)
