ISLAMABAD, Sept 24 (KUNA) -- Taliban militants have gunned-down about seven
pro-government tribal elders in a Pakistani northern town, said officials on
THursday.
The members of tribal peace committee were holding a meeting Wednesday
morning in Jani Khel area of Bannu tribal town, security officials told KUNA.
They said militants sprayed bullets at them, killing seven and wounding about
two others.
Officials said that all of the victims were tribal elders and members of
pro-government peace committee.
The incident came a day after military chief, General Ashfaq Pervaiz
Kayani, claimed that Pakistan was winning war against terrorism.
General Kayani visited neighboring Tank town and South Waziristan tribal
agency on Tuesday and addressing a gathering of his men said that the army is
close to winning the war against terrorism.
According to press reports, the chief said that the strategy adopted by the
army and peoples support had led to the dismantling of the terror network.
