KUWAIT, July 20 (KUNA) -- Kuwait's Ministry of Education plans to introduce
state-of-the-art technological applications in the country's educational
process, Minister of Education and Higher Education Moudhi Al-Humoud said here
Monday.
The move is part of the ministry's blueprint purposed to revamp the
educational system with a view to creating a conscious and self-educated
generation capable of keeping abreast of global technological advancements,
the minister told a routine cabinet meeting.
Al-Humoud also elaborated on her ministry's plan to expand e-learning,
which she said only required the provision of relevant educational equipment
and practical interactive materials, together with an educational portal and
wireless networks at schools.
At the onset of the meeting, which was presided over by Deputy Prime
Minister and Minister of Defense Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Sabah, the cabinet
ministers were apprised of a recent letter to His Highness the Amir Sheikh
Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah from US President Barack Obama, including
ongoing efforts to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
Speaking to reporters following the meeting, Minister of State for Cabinet
Affairs Roudhan Al-Roudhan said the cabinet was briefed on a letter to HH the
Amir from Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU)
Dr Hamadoun Tour{, inviting him to attend an international communication
conference due to be held in Geneva in October.
They were also kept posted on another message to HH the Amir from Prince
Talal bin Abdelaziz, chairman of the Arab Gulf Program for United Nations
Development Organizations (AGFUND), on the program's accomplishments and
projects, the minister said.
They further reviewed a letter to HH the Prime Minister from Radio Monte
Carlo on its desire to promote its services in Kuwait, he said.
The cabinet then listened to Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister
Sheikh Dr Mohammad Al-Sabah on the outcomes of participation in the 15th
Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) recently held in Egypt's Sharm El-Sheikh.
During the summit, the NAM leaders vowed to continue support for the
Palestinian people and their state with Jerusalem as its capital, he said.
The foreign minister expounded on the outcomes of his meetings with his
counterparts on the sidelines of the NAM summit.
Furthermore, the ministers listened to explanation from Minister of Social
Affairs and Labor Mohammad Al-Afasi on the findings of his recent visit to
Lausanne in Switzerland where he met International Olympic Committee (IOC)
Chairman Dr. Jack Rogue.
During the meeting, they agreed to grant Kuwait another deadline until
yearend to adapt its sports laws with the Olympic charter, the cabinet
minister said.
The cabinet finally discussed recent reports on the latest Arab and
international political developments, openly condemning recent attacks in
Jakarta, Indonesia, which left several innocent people killed or injured. It
voiced condolence for the Indonesian leadership, people and families of
