KABUL, May 23 (KUNA) -- The US-led coalition troops said they killed 60 Taliban militants during an operation in southern Afghanistan. A statement from the coalition forces' Bagram base on Saturday said the militants were killed in Marja district of the southern province of Helmand. The military said a big cache of drugs was also seized during the operation, which was launched in the troubled zone on May 19. The military did not give the number of casualties among the Afghan or US troops during the four-day operation. The US troops used gunfire as well as precision air strikes. Bomb making materials, drugs and weapons present in the area were also destroyed in the air strike, the statement added. Helmand is a volatile province of Afghanistan and also known as the opium capital of the country. Meanwhile, the Afghan and coalition forces detained one suspected militant in an early morning operation to capture a Taliban commander in Baraki Barak district of the central Logar province. Without revealing identity of the detainee, the coalition forces statement said that he was suspected to be the militant wanted to the Afghan government on charges of involvement in the May 12 attacks in Khost.
