BEIRUT, May 23 (KUNA) -- Proceedings of interrogations and investigations into the espionage networks linked to Israeli intelligence must remain under wraps, a Lebanese military source said Saturday.
Speaking to KUNA on condition of anonymity, the source said that seriousness of the this case had prompted authorities "to refuse to divulge any information about the networks that were found to have links with the Israeli enemy, in the interest of maintaining the secrecy of investigations and to continue to hunt down those involved in this grave national crime." He said the issue was "very sensitive" and called on the media to stop speculating in order to "preserve civil security in Lebanon." Meanwhile, another Lebanese security source told KUNA that up to 16 suspected individuals had been apprehended so far in relation to the espionage networks.
The source said that these had infiltrated the Lebanese Army and the Internal Security Force, and that some had been referred to the military courts for legal prosecution.
Yesterday, in a speech marking the ninth Resistance and Liberation Day, Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah called for putting all spies to death for giving information to Israel, which in turn led to casualties and destruction on the Lebanese side. (end) oh.ema KUNA 231318 May 09NNNN
