KUWAIT, May 17 (KUNA) -- Justice Mohammad bin Naji announced Sunday 10 winners in the third constituency of the 2009 parliamentary elections with Aseel Al-Awadhi and Rola Dashit being the first female candidates winning seats in Kuwait's history.
He said the winners were: 1- Roudhan Al-Roudhan with 13,107 votes 2- Aseel Al-Awadhi with 11,860 votes 3- Ahmad Al-Saadoun with 10,969 votes 4- Faisal Al-Mislem Al-Utaibi 9,295 votes 5- Saleh Al-Mulla with 9,075 votes 6- Naji Al-Abdulhadi with 8,329 votes 7- Rola Dashti with 7,666 votes 8- Adel Al-Saraawi with 7,552 votes 9- Waleed Al-Tabtabae with 7,452 votes 10- Ali Al-Omair with 6,573 votes.
Al-Roudhan was born in 1965 and holds a diploma. He was vice president of the Municipal Council between 1999 and 2001, and chairman of the council between 2001 and 2003. Al-Roudhan was elected MP in 2008 and was appointed Health Minister in the same year.
Dr. Aseel Al-Awadhi, who came second, holds a PhD in political philosophy from Texas University and a bachelors degree with a minor in political sciences from Kuwait University. She was a member of Amnesty International in 1988-1991, a volunteer at the Kuwaiti Society for Victims of War in 1991-1993. She has been lecturer at Kuwait University's Arts College since 2006.
Veteran Ahmad Al-Saadoun was born in 1934 and holds a degree in literature. He was formerly the assistant undersecretary for mail and telephone, and member of the National Assembly in 1975-2008. He was elected deputy speaker in 1981, and speaker in 1985, 1992, and 1996.
Al-Utaibi, coming forth, was born in 1962 and holds a PhD in modern and contemporary political history from the University of Wales. He is a member of Kuwait University's Arts Faculty. He was elected MP in 2003, 2006 and 2008.
Saleh Al-Mulla was born in 1971 and holds a bachelors degree in business from Kuwait University. He worked as a diplomat, and is currently engaged in the global marketing sector of Kuwait Petroleum Corporation. He was elected MP in 2008.
Naji Al-Abdulhadi, who came sixth, was born in 1961 and holds a bachelor degree in Engineering. He worked as director of safety department in Kuwait Municipality, member of the Municipal Council in 1999 and is vice-chairman of the Kuwait society of engineers.
Rola Dashti, the second women winning parliamentary elections, holds a PhD in population economy from John Hopkins University in the US. She held a number of consultative positions in companies and is Chairperson of Kuwait Economists Society.
Al-Saraawi was born in 1962 and holds a bachelors degree in accounting. He held a number of leading positions with the Public Authority for Assessment of Compensation for Damages Resulting from Iraqi Aggression. Al-Saraawi became a member of the National Assembly in 2003, 2006 and 2008.
Al-Tabtabae was born in 1964 and holds a PhD in Islamic Sharia (laws) and taught at Kuwait University. He was a member in the National Assembly in 1996, 1999, 2003, 2006 and 2008. Al-Tabtabae was also editor-in-chief of Al-Mishkat magazine and wrote columns in Al-Watan, Al-Rai Al-Aam, and Al-Deera magazine.
The last MP is Ali Al-Omair was born in 1958 and holds a PhD in analytical chemistry and taught in the UAE University in 1990 and 1991, at Kuwait University between 1992 and 1994, and at the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training between 1994 and 1997.
