KUWAIT, Feb 17 (KUNA) -- The Chairperson of the Women's Affairs Committee in Kuwait, Sheikha Latifa Al-Fahd Al-Salim Al-Sabah, stated here on Tuesday that the Arab Economic Social and Development Summit held in Kuwait focused on women and stressed the need to grant them full rights to carry on contributing to social development.
The figure was addressing the opening session of a conference on "social restraints and means to counter deviant behavior," co-organized be the committee.
The conference is co-organized with the Family and Childhood Department at the Arab League.
She said summit decisions put women before greater responsibility in the educational, cultural, economic, and social fields.
She expressed hope that this conference will be a successful start for resolving "one of the most serious challenges our societies are facing", meaning behaviors which oppose and challenge social norms.
She added effect of such a behaviors coupled with absence of adequate data to plan for counter efforts put all social segments at risk.
The figure expressed thanks and appreciation to the Arab League Secretary General, Amr Moussa, for his initiative and suggesting this venue to tackle this problem.
The conference lasts three days, covering topics which include role of social institutions in controlling deviant behavior, role of media in spreading awareness, rehabilitation programs, and many other subjects.
