KUWAIT, Jan 16 (KUNA) -- The Arab Economic summit to be held in Kuwait next week will be discussing issues not discussed by any previous summit, a matter that distinguishes the summit in Kuwait, a senior Kuwaiti official said Friday.
The Kuwait summit will be discussing economic and social issues of concern to the Arab citizens, deputy prime minister, foreign minister and acting oil minister Sheikh Dr. Mohammad Sabah Al-Sabah told a joint news conference with Arab League secretary general Amr Moussa.
The summiteers will be discussing issues ranging from education, poverty, hunger, linking the Arab countries through electricity and railways, and health, said Sheikh Mohammad.
The Arab Economic summit, he added, was designed to address the daily concerns of the Arab people.
Kuwait Amir His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah discussed the Arab summit idea with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, and both approved to call for the high-level meeting, noted Sheikh Mohammad.
The Arab world was suffering from record high population growth and the limited economic resources, he said.
The natural, financial and economic resources in the Arab world are growing less than the population increase, said Sheikh Mohammad, which undermined the living conditions.
If this continues, he said, it would create social and political problems thus national security.
Sheikh Mohammad said Kuwait was proud to hosting the economic summit.
Turning to Gaza, Sheikh Mohammad described the Israeli army as the "neo nazis." He said UN secretary general Ban Ki-moon would be attending the summit and would listen to the Arab leaders about the Gaza conflict.
Sheikh Mohammad, asked about the oil prices, said Kuwait was always keen on stability of the oil prices. (pickup previous) kt KUNA 170049 Jan 09NNNN
