KUWAIT, Jan 6 (KUNA) -- Minister of Interior Sheikh Jaber Al-Khalid Al-Sabah on Tuesday reiterated significance of the Arab Economic, Social and Development Summit, to be held in Kuwait on January 19-20, 2009, in highlighting the country's pivotal role at Arab, regional and international levels.
His remarks came during an expanded security meeting he presided over earlier today.
The meeting was attended by senior officials at the ministry, spearheaded by Undersecretary Lieutenant General Ahmad Al-Rujaib, who doubles as commander and inspector general of the security and control command of the summit.
The meeting also gathered Assistant Undersecretary of the ministry for Criminal Security and deputy commander of the security and control command Lieut.-Gen. Ghazi Al-Omar and Assistant Undersecretary for Citizenship and Passports' Affairs and general coordinator of the summit Maj.-Gen. Musa'ed Al-Mash'an.
It also saw the attendance of members of the security and control command, as well as the leaders of concerned security services, including the Amiri Guard Corps and the National Guard Corps.
Sheikh Jaber, during the meeting, said that the supreme political leadership, represented by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, HH the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, had provided all financial, technical and human resources needed to secure the summit's success.
Sheikh Jaber also underlined importance of cooperation and coordination to be present among all concerned security bodies in sustaining homeland security, pointing out that such objective should be dealt with as "one unit" in order to maintain the country's security during and after the summit.
Al-Rujaib, on his part, briefed the minister with mechanism for protecting the routes of official convoys and the alternative routes, as well as the airport reception mechanism for the top-level guests of Kuwait.
The meeting probed the guidelines of the security plan for the summit and preventive measures to be adopted by all concerned services in order to ensure the security of the summit and smooth traffic during the anticipated event. (end) yms.no.hb KUNA 061707 Jan 09NNNN
