GAZA, Dec 17 (KUNA) -- Israel would not hesitate to conduct a military operation in Gaza Strip if such need arises to counter Palestinian militant activity, Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak stressed Wednesday.
In statements to Radio Israel this morning, Barak said "'calm' would be repaid in kind," in clear indication missile attacks from Gaza on southern Israeli targets would be paid in counter-attack as well.
Last night saw the end of the unofficial ceasefire between the Israelis and the Palestinian factions in Gaza, brokered by Egypt, and it is still to be announced whether the two are willing to renew the agreement.
Meanwhile, Barak was quoted saying, "It is a moral and official duty to bring back Israeli Gilad Shalit back to his family from his current captivity in Gaza." The return of the captured soldier must be achieved, through whatever method necessary and feasible. (end) zt.wsa KUNA 171022 Dec 08NNNN
