ISTANBUL, Nov 9 (KUNA) -- Turkish forces are reportedly moving towards southeastern areas near the borders with Iraq, Turkish media said Sunday but military observors ruled out an imminent cross-border assault against Kurdish rebels in northern Iraq.
National TV (NTV) reported that a large number of military vehicles loaded with troops and weapons were advacing towards the Hakkar province near the southeast borders with Iraq.
Many security forces and village guards were also deployed in strategic locations in border areas, said NTV.
The Turkish government did not comment on this report and it was unknown the purpose of these movements.
Thousands of Turkish forces had launched a week-long wide-scale offensive against kurdistan Workers Party's (PKK) elements in northern Iraq killing many of them. (end) ta.bs KUNA 092355 Nov 08NNNN
