GAZA, Oct 27 (KUNA) -- Israeli security authorities accused Hamas movement
of planning to execute "a strategic military operation in Israel soon",
Yedioth Ahronoth reported Monday.
The daily cited Israeli security sources as saying that "the intended
military operation is most likely aimed at abducting Israeli soldiers in order
to mount pressure on the prisoner-swap deal."
This came a day after the Israeli announcement of foiling an ambush that
was set by Hamas to kidnap Israeli soldiers and transfer them to Gaza Strip
through tunnels.
The sources pointed out to several possible scenarios for a military
operation that might be carried out by Hamas, namely smuggling booby-trapped
cars that would be used against Israeli military sites.
Israeli security authorities also expect Hamas operatives to infiltrate to
some Israeli settlements to try and take hostages, they said.(end)
