ABU DHABI, Aug 18 (KUNA) -- The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states import more than USD 12 billion worth of food every year, an expert in agriculture technology said here Monday.
Dr. Mohammad Adel Ghandour said regional and international circumstances should encourage the six GCC countries to invest in agriculture domain in Africa, noting that food prices have surged by 75 percent since 2000.
Speaking in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) deputy prime minister's media center, Ghandour said the UAE topped the GCC countries in terms of value of food imports, with Saudi Arabia coming next.
The UAE and Saudi Arabia are pondering agricultural investment projects in Sudan, Egypt and Pakistan, he said.
