NEW DELHI, June 26 (KUNA) -- Sri Lankan Armed forces Thursday captured
territories held by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in the
Northwestern Mannar district.
"Troopers backed by air force captured seven square kilometres of area,
including Periyamadu village," military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara
told Indo Asian News Service.
Brig. Nanayakkara said the troopers have captured nearly 800 sq km northern
in Wanni, northeastern Weli Oya and Mannar regions over the past one year.
At least 12 LTTE men were also killed today in clashes in Mannar.
In another incident, Sri Lankan combat jets successfully raided an LTTE
training base at Vellankulam also in Mannar, the news agency said. (end)
