CAIRO, June 21 (KUNA) -- Minister of Awqaf (Religious Affairs) Dr. Mahmoud
Hamdy Zaqzouq affirmed Saturday that world peace could be achieved if
solutions for problems such as the Palestinian-Israeli conflict were presented.
Zaqzouq said during his meeting with the Secretary General of the World
Council of Churches (WCC) Reverend Dr. Samuel Kobia that dialogue was the base
for all solutions, affirming that religion could play an important part in
promoting peace in the Mideast region and the world.
He indicated that his ministry encouraged dialogue amongst faiths,
revealing that Egypt's religious scholars were sent to Europe in order to
conduct all kinds of dialogue with their counterparts from other faiths.
On his part, Kobia affirmed the strong relations amongst Muslims and
Christians in Egypt, inviting Zaquzouq to visit the WCC headquarters in Geneva
to hold an inter-faith meeting there. (end)
